Tamatori Hime Tattoos Seen On Lower Back

By Jenny Cole

The Tamatori hime tattoos are very popular across many countries and through many culture, the meaning and reason for wearing them are often similar though.

The legend states she cut her self open in order to store the bead and therefore speed up her swim. She did reach the shore but subsequently died of her self inflicted injuries, falling to her own desperation and greed. The variations on the legend expand the story and say how hime was a pearl diver and was trying to retrieve the bead which had been dropped into the lake by the Chinese emperor, the bead being a gift for his Japanese equivalent.

The story is usually fairly constant in what it says but it allows interpretation of how the characters looked and therefore how they were portrayed, originally they were shown in drawings and paintings which would then begin to introduce different interpretations.

It can also be a small and basic drawing or can be very detailed showing bone structure or flesh and scales. The detail depends on the wearers wishes and the abilities of the tattooist. Of course a basic design can be made more complicated if wished with more detail and more background added over a period of time.

The dragon can be long in length with a massive twisting tail or can be shorter with a tail similar in length to the body. The dragons colour can be a standard green one,it can be red or brown or if drawn can be left as outline with some detail rather then colour.

Different focuses could be the princess in the Tamatori hime tattoos, she is shown swimming or fighting with the dragons. She is often shown as a powerful focus point and as a heroine figure, almost sacrificing herself for what she believed in.

With the princess comes the dragons and various other sea creatures beside. The wearer if using some of these aspects can show more of the story and can have more designs of nature, bravery and of a gallant fight between the human world and the mythical under sea world. The Japanese are famous for having intricate designs of tattoos that tell stories and have many recognisable features.

With the dragon possibly wrapped around the leg or arm the tattoo can be seen all round the body. With the numerous variations of the designs there are numerous variations of locations.

As always do your research on both the designs and the person who will apply the designs. Study the characters for their meanings and history and then design your image, with work you could end up with a special and striking design. - 16755
