How Can You Treat Acne Effectively?

By Dan da Silva

Many people find it hard to believe that you can suffer with acne at any age and do not have to be a teenager. While it is true that acne will often become apparent during the formative years, many people do in fact find it a temporary condition although as many as nine in every ten people will suffer with at some point in their lives.

While the naturally occurring oil we produce called sebum does in fact clog the hair follicles, it is not the only substance to blame for the condition of acne and neither is oily skin either. The oil clogged inside the pore, not on the outside of the skin is what makes a pimple although acne is more of a contemporary problem and not a condition people in the past generally had to worry about.

Among the many causes of clogged pores are the use of makeup, everyday air particles and often a simple case of hormonal changes but while acne is a part of life for many individuals, it can be effectively treated. Many other factors contribute to the formation of acne and some debate that diet impacts the formation of acne, caused by reprocessed foods, junk foods, and sugars this contemporary society eats every day.

More persistent cases of acne will probably need stronger medication which can be prescribed by a dermatologist. Having a dermatologist treat the condition is not such a bad idea as he or she will be able to better check on how well the treatment is he prescribed. It is very important to avoid aggravating, or disrupting, any and all acne blemishes otherwise, the sufferer will face a possible bacterial infection from dirt or germs that may reside underneath the fingernails.

This means that fingernails need to be kept clean and not dismissed because they look clean as almost all bacteria and germs are invisible to the naked human eye. To be on the safe side it is always wiser for an acne victim not to touch any of their pimples with their hands just in case.

As very few people have completely blemish free skin, there is a good chance that if you haven't had acne that you may well experience it at some stage especially if your parents suffered with it as well. The most likely scenario is that you will contact acne while you are young probably around puberty.

While opinions vary on the subject, it cannot hurt to contact a dermatologist if you are having a problem with acne or other skin complaint. This article is based on information readily available but should be used as a guide only, so if you are unsure, contact a medical professional about your condition. - 16755
